How to sell with us
Bidexia is run by Lumsden Auctions, auctioneers in Formentera del Segura since 2008. Bidexia sells for private individuals, including executors of an estate, from a single item to the contents of a whole house.-
You bring the goods. We photograph, describe and list them, deal with the bidders, take the payment and hand the lots over to the buyers. You receive one payout with a clear statement.
How it works
- Talk to us. Email [email protected]. Tell us what you have. For larger lots or whole contents we can visit and give a free valuation. We can also collect across the province of Alicante, collection charge can be calculated.
- Register as a seller with us. We record your details once and give you a seller number. You need:
- DNI, NIE or passport
- your address and a contact phone and email
- the bank account (IBAN) we should pay you into
- your confirmation that you are selling as a private individual, not in the course of a business
- We catalogue your items. Our team photographs each item, records its size and weight and writes a bilingual (English and Spanish) title and description. Software sometimes helps us draft the text, but a person always checks it. We never claim an item works unless we have tested it. Untested items are clearly marked as such.
- We agree the prices. For each lot we agree:
- a starting price
- an optional reserve, a confidential minimum below which the lot will not sell
- an optional Buy now price
- Your lots go live. Each lot runs for 3, 5 or 7 days, with its own closing time. A bid in the last 2 minutes extends the closing time by 2 minutes, so nobody wins by sniping. Watchers and matching saved searches are emailed automatically.
- We sell and hand over. When a lot sells, we collect the payment from the buyer and release the lot to them.
- You get paid. Once the buyer has paid in full, we pay you with a statement listing every lot sold and every deduction.
What it costs
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Commission | 20% of the hammer price, plus IVA (21%) on the commission |
| Lot fee | €1 per lot sold |
| Listing | Free. No charge to list, and no subscription |
| Buyer's premium | None. Buyers pay exactly their winning bid, which keeps bidding keen |
Example: a lot sells for €100.
| Amount | |
|---|---|
| Hammer price | €100.00 |
| Lot fee | − €1.00 |
| Commission (20%) | − €20.00 |
| IVA on commission (21%) | − €4.20 |
| You receive | €74.80 |
For large consignments and whole-contents clearances we can agree individual rates. Ask us.
If a lot doesn't sell
- Bids came in, but below your reserve: for 48 hours after closing we can offer the lot to the highest bidder, at their bid or at a price you agree. Many of these offers become sales.
- No bids: with your agreement we relist the lot, sometimes at a lower starting price. Otherwise you collect it within 3 days.
Getting paid
- We pay once the buyer's payment has been received in full. We never pay out on money we have not received.
- Payment is by bank transfer, or in cash at our office for amounts under €1,000, which is the legal limit for cash payments (Ley 7/2012). Cash payouts are signed for.
- Every payout comes with a statement (liquidación) showing each lot, its hammer price, the lot fee, the commission and IVA.
- We issue you a tax invoice (factura) for our commission and IVA.
- Payout timing: 10 working days of the buyer collecting.
Tax, in short
We act as your agent (mediador). The sale is between you and the buyer, and we charge you commission for arranging it.
- Your sale carries no IVA. Whether you owe tax on a gain is a matter for your own tax return. If in doubt, speak to your adviser.
- By law we may have to report sellers' sales to the Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria), for example under the DAC7 rules for platforms. That is why we ask for your identity and tax details.
What we can't sell
- anything you do not own or are not authorised to sell
- stolen goods, counterfeits and replicas
- firearms, ammunition, explosives and weapons requiring a licence
- drugs and drug paraphernalia, medicines and hazardous chemicals
- live animals and protected species or their parts, such as ivory, under CITES
- human remains
- adult content
- securities and currency, except coins sold as collectables
- anything recalled, unsafe, or whose sale is otherwise prohibited in Spain or the EU
If in doubt, ask before you bring it. We may refuse or remove any lot.
Your responsibilities
- You confirm that you own each item, or are authorised to sell it, and that it is free of debts and claims.
- Tell us about any fault, missing part, repair or restriction you know of. We describe the item from what we can see, and what you tell us becomes part of the description.
- You confirm that you are selling as a private individual. If you regularly buy goods to resell them, you are trading, and your goods belong in the saleroom. Tell us.
- Once a lot has sold, the sale is binding on you as well as the buyer.
